Donald Hollsten, M.D., F.A.C.S.

Dr. Hollsten is a Board Certified Ophthalmologist and a fellowship trained Oculoplastic surgeon. For over 35 years, he has been treating patients and specializing in Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He continues to display an exceptional skillset and has been consistently recognized by his peers as an expert in his field. He’s been highlighted as a Texas Super Doctor, chosen as one of the Best Doctors in America and has been awarded as one of Strathmore’s Who’s Who, an honor which recognizes individuals who demonstrate leadership and achievement in their industry and profession.

Prior to his medical training, Dr. Hollsten graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point and received his medical degree from the University of Minnesota. Now a retired colonel, he has been in private medical practice since 1995 where he’s also become a highly respected full Clinical Professor at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.

Dr. Hollsten believes in treating each patient as an individual and discusses their treatment with them to address their unique reconstructive and aesthetic goals. That coupled with his skills, training and expertise has allowed him to see patients from all over the world, with patients traveling from as far as South Africa to be treated by him.

When he’s not working with patients, Dr. Hollsten enjoys spending time with his wife, Lolli, his four daughters, two bichons, and three grand-pugs.

Jordan Hollsten, M.D.

Dr. Jordan Hollsten is a fellowship trained Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon treating insurance, private pay, and cosmetic patients for reconstructive, revisional, and trauma eye surgeries in South Central Texas and surrounding regions.

Currently Dr. Jordan splits her time as an Oculoplastic Surgeon in both private practice and at the Ophthalmology Clinic at the South Texas Veterans Health Care System. She works actively as a mentor and teacher for the Ophthalmology Residents at UT Health San Antonio.

She knew at a very young age that she wanted to practice medicine. Throughout high school she spent her spare time on the weekends working as a receptionist in her her father’s medical office, at swim practice, or competing in swim meets.

After graduating from Churchill High School in San Antonio, Dr. Jordan went to college at Rice University on a 4-year scholarship for competitive swimming and academics where she received her BA in English in 2003.

Dr. Jordan studied medicine at UT Health San Antonio where she received her Doctorate in Medicine (MD) in 2009. She completed her medical internship year at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and then went on to complete a 3-year Ophthalmology Residency at the University of Florida, Gainesville. Dr. Jordan then returned home to San Antonio to complete a 2-year fellowship in Oculoplastic Surgery through UT Health San Antonio under direct tutelage of her father, Dr. Donald Hollsten; and Dr. Constance Fry, head of Oculoplastics at UT Health.

Throughout her years of training, Dr. Jordan participated in numerous other medical projects and passions including setting up and coordinating the first International Ophthalmology Medical Conference at the University of Florida in Gainesville, and working in breast cancer research at South Texas Oncology & Hematology (now the START Center).

She continues to improve her Spanish fluency by regularly working with non-English speaking patients from South Texas and Mexico. Like her father, Dr. Jordan believes in working closely with her patients one-on-one, discussing treatment options with them to address their individual reconstructive and aesthetic goals.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Jordan loves working in her garden, writing, and reading voraciously. Above all else, her favorite thing is to travel; bonus if it allows her to spend more time with her family, friends, and goldendoodle- Frankie.

Aida Bounama, M.D. [Oculoplastic Fellow]

Dr. Aida Bounama joined the practice in July 2016 for a two year fellowship with Dr. Donald Hollsten in conjunction with the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio.

Born in Algeria, Dr. Bounama moved to the United States at a very young age and is fluent in three languages. She attended college at Dartmouth College before heading to Medical School at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine.

Before coming to Texas, Dr. Bounama completed a one-year internship at Pennsylvania Hospital studying Internal Medicine and then a three-year Ophthalmology residency at the University of Pennsylvania Sheie Eye Institute.

Donald Hollsten, M.D., FACS
